New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania ‘unleashes’ a full weekend of activities & amenities for VIP’s (Very Important Pooches) attending the Westminster Dog Show

New York City, NY —New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania, The World’s Most Popular Hotel®, celebrates another year as the Host Hotel for all canine guests participating in the annual Westminster Dog Show. The 130th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show takes place on February 13th and 14th 2006 at Madison Square Garden, across from New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania. To mark this special occasion, the property has established a variety of onsite activities and amenities in tune with the Show, including:

1) In association with the Westminster Kennel Club, the Pennsylvania Hotel will host a live pre-show and post-show broadcast satellite feed from the Hotel’s Main Lobby with participants of the Westminster Dog Show. The pre-show feed will give an opportunity for different media market outlets to interview participants from their corresponding local market. The pre-show feed will take place in the Hotel Lobby on Friday, February 10th; Time TBD. The post-show feed will give an opportunity for different media market outlets to interview with the Best In Show winner and judge, as well as other group winners. The post-show feed will take place in the Hotel Lobby on Wednesday, February 15th; Time TBD.

2) The Hotel will unveil the 1st Annual “Red Carpet” Pre-Westminster Fashion Show on Wednesday February 8; Time 7 pm on the 18th floor ballroom. Bloodhound “Knotty” Ch. Heather’s Knock-on-Wood will be the official canine of the “Red Carpet” Pre-Westminster Fashion Show and is the esteemed Best In Show winner of the $50,000 Eukanuba AKC Classic. “Red Carpet” Pre-Westminster Fashion Show benefit will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.

Trisha Simmons (principal, on Desperate Housewives), will be the Mistress of Ceremonies. The Designer Fashion Show will feature designs from Ada Nieves gowns for dogs and Roxy Hunt Coiffures. Professionals and dog enthusiasts from the Westminster Kennel Club will model designer fashions.

3) As in previous year’s, the Hotel will again convert its lower lobby ballrooms into what is perhaps the largest in-door ‘doggie’ Green Room & Spa in all of New York. Located within the great hall of the Hotel, the spacious 4,000 square-foot dog grooming/comfort station offers a variety of amenities these Show participants require: bathing/beauty parlor/salon, exercise area, walking area, and even his and her’s relieving area. This year will again feature the Dog-tor’s Corner, which includes a veterinarian, canine masseuse and an animal communicator!

4) As always, the Hotel will have its Doggie Concierge on-site working hard to attend to all canine requirements (such as extra pillows, ‘Paw’rier water, and special food orders), a Paw Mall in the Lobby, and tons of other festivities ‘unleashed’ in time for Westminster Dog Show.

“As we head into the 130th Westminster Show, we look forward to catering to these VIP’s (Very Important Pooches) with our unique amenities,” said Steve Leonard, Director of ‘Bark’eting at the Hotel. “With 2006 marking the ‘Year of the Dog’ and given our year-round pet-friendly accommodations, we are the ideal hotel for Westminster Dog Show guests and year-round travelers with pets.”

Westminster is the oldest, continuous sporting event in America, with the exception of the Kentucky Derby. The Dog Show is the most prestigious of National Dog Shows and has been held every year despite power shortages, hazardous weather conditions, economic depressions and World Wars.
