Bloom SpringFest at Save A Pet CDesert
Hot Springs, CA - March 25, 2005 - Save A Pet, save a plant, what's going on here?
The Bark'n Bloom SpringFest is the 3rd annual fundraiser for Save A Pet, set for
Sunday, April 10, 11am-4pm, on the grounds of the shelter on 18th Avenue in Desert
Hot Springs. All proceeds will be going for the maintenance and upkeep of the
Save A Pet Shelter and Gardens. Tickets are $10 for adults over 12 years of age.
Info line 760.329.1509 Herb Moniz has spent the last several years in
a growin' mood. He has planted a garden of trees, shrubs, and plants that now
envelop the entire layout of human-size dwellings for the animals, and medical
facilities. The complex is beautiful, tranquil, and an oasis for the homeless
animals,
that is. "My goal for the shelter and its surrounding property," Moniz
describes, "is to create a space of tranquility and higher thought by combining
nature and animals. The whole place is going to be the new Palapas Gardens, so
to speak, for pet lovers and people who want to share their spirit. I
am also trying to create the Hemingway/Steinbeck reading room-a used bookstore
with a Bohemian theme in a garden setting with a California Mission flavor.
And the resale barn will have a Martha Stewart touch of Americana red and
white." This has been no mean feat. Herb's vision started 11 years ago when
he took over management of Save A Pet, at that time only 4 cages on a universe
of sand. The event will be a whole lot of fun, and educational, too.
There will be food served, games, pet adoptions, Rev. Cathy the Animal Communicator,
and live entertainment by Carl Roessler with Tribal Grooves, Rocco the 1-Man Band,
with rare groove DJ work by Dan McGrath, Morning Personality with EZ-103.1FM.
Herb will present an informal session on the proper way to deal with an angry,
approaching animal; and the numbers to call when you spot a homeless animal. The
Art In The Park silent auction is most representative of the direction Herb is
using for the shelter, a gallery of drawings from school children to auction to
the supportive public. "Over the past few years, I've been committed
to lowering the birth rate, and ultimately the euthanasia rate, for dogs and cats,"
Herb explains. "Our Partners for Life program is designed to teach the public
about the importance of spaying and neutering the animals so that we control the
population growth. The Coachella Valley Association of Government (CVAG) reported
that Desert Hot Springs now has the lowest euthanasia rate in the country, 9.3%,
since our program started. Save A Pet would like to form outreach programs with
other cities in our valley, and around the country to make this a nationwide effort."
We have great sponsors on board to fund this event: Caliente tropics Resort,
California Closets, Rene's Aquatics, Dr. Paula Terifaj's The Doggy Bag, the Valley
Breeze, and CBS TV2's Morning News Show. "Without the help of these businesses,
and the volunteer folks who are ready to help staff the event, we wouldn't be
able to do this. Now, we have a great party lined up for you," remarks Herb
Moniz. "Please join us for a memorable afternoon of pets, plants,
and partying. Pets are always invited!" #
